oh the holidays

It's that busy time of the year again. My family actually threatened to "postpone" Christmas because it seems no one is really in the mood this year. Luckily, they came to their senses and realized it would be a terrible tradition to take away from "the kids."

I would have been just as disappointed if my family didn't gather together in gluttony as usual around this time of the year. Since I've graduated college though, presents for me have stopped coming. Considering they assume I can now pay for my own things via a job, there's no need to hand over the little envelopes with 50 bucks in it. Growing up truly stinks! I haven't been sure whether this unofficial initiation into adulthood also means that I must now have my own presents to hand out to the little ones. No more attaching my name to my mom's. I've decided it's not quite that time yet; however, I've been finding some great little gag presents for little cousins that I think would be a much more personal gift than a 50 dollar envelope. Besides, giving isn't just about giving. For me, it's about the little smirk that shows up on their faces when they realize someone actually cared enough to figure them out.

This is our tree this year. Last year our color theme was blue. It looked like Hanukkah. This year, we're keeping it traditional. It looks lovely, and my mother has been having a little too much fun finding all sorts of fabrics to match our tree.
